Why is the comic strip named Peanuts?

Although Charles M. Schulz wanted the comic strip to be named Good Old Charlie Brown, the name Peanuts was chosen by the publishers because it was a well-known term for children at the time. The popular TV show, Howdy Doody, featured an audience section for children called the “Peanut Gallery.”
